Jeweller loses $30,000 diamond ring part 1-3

hi I’m Philip Sullivan owner of Jewellery
Plus in Summerside. I’ve been in the business for about 30 years now and one
of my favorite things about this business is I get to help people express
their love through gifts of jewelry. So who are you, where are you, and what just happened? Phillip Sullivan. We’re in what they call
it Centennial Park, I think, in Summerside or Memorial Park or something and
we were shooting a TV commercial and I had a diamond ring in a box and it fell in the
water. here? and how big a ring was it? 2 carats – 2 Carats? yeah.yeah. princess cut white gold. and it’s in there somewhere? yeah. so so now we’re doing the commercial and there’s no ring. yes.yeah …… hopefully the water will clear up. hopefully if it’s sparkling down there somewhere
we should see it. I know that’s what I’m thinking. Somewhere soon. yeah it’s starting to clear up We’re here at Jewelllery Plus in Summerside and we’re gonna find out why Philip dropped the ring in the water. So Philip, Yeah. How are you? Good. We got to find out why you dropped that ring in the water. Well we got these ring boxes in just a little while ago. Actually, I have one here. So, they’re nice and slim. The idea behind them is if you want to hide it away you can stick it in your shirt pocket. You can see you hardly notice
it there. Versus like a regular ring box. You know, even a small one, is
still pretty big I mean if you’re thinking about getting engaged or you want to
hide something to surprise somebody well it’s pretty noticeable.
so anyway Gus had called me to do a commercial shoot. So I grabbed a big
ring. Because, you know, small rings don’t show up very well on camer. They are a
small item. and so I grabbed one of the bigger rings we had in the store. and
so I was a little bit rushed when I was leaving. These boxes actually have two
two different holders one for bigger rings one for smaller rings. So the
default one that’s in there is for the smaller. so I just I put it on there and
and you can see it fits on there pretty good. So I just closed it up and
put it my pocket. As Gus and Dave were getting a few things adjusted for
the camera and the microphone and stuff I I was standing there on the bridge I
think as you saw I had the ring in my pocket so I pulled it out I open up the
box like this and away it goes. Shoot right down to the floor except right
into the water. Anyway, lesson learned make sure to put the bigger holder on
because you can see it just pops in or out. That goes on there. Two minutes or so, or less, and it’s not gonna fall off. so I will be… any time we give out
one of these ring boxes we’ll make sure we got the proper holder
to suit the size of the ring. So cool little boxes. But again, lesson learned
make sure you got the proper holder to hold it in place. so we’re shooting the
new Jewellery Plus commercial down at Memorial Park Summerside and Philip was practicing taking the ring out of his pocket and he opened up the new
container and ta-dah! the ring fell into the pond. So we decided to continue with the commercial. We were all distracted. thirty years now and one of the best things I
love of it one of the things I love most about them is this helping helping
people express their love So it was getting late and Philip ran
home to dig up a flashlight and I ran here to Canadian Tire and Summerside and looking for a glass-bottom toy like a kid’s bucket that they used for looking
for shells and stuff at the beach but I couldn’t find one that time of the
year here. So I went to the department there and I found us a nice strainer. Picked up a strainer, and bought it, and ran back to the park and gave to Philip and he
started digging around the water
