Hello! I’m Karina Formanova. Welcome to Evrazhka Studio. Today I will show you how to make this interesting pendant. I like layered techniques when a beautiful base shine through a transparent top layer or small holes. When something shine and asks to take a closer look at it. And this is one of those technique. I call it “Martian pebbles”. I will leave full list of all necessary materials and tools in the description below. Firstly, select a cabochon. It can be any transparent cabochon made of glass, stone or epoxy resin. Just check epoxy cabochon, how well it can sustain the heat. I like to use marbles and manually cast epoxy cabochons. Pick up a metal leaf. Cabochon color will be slightly different depending on a color of a metal leaf. Just place the cabochon on different colors of metal leafs and select the one you like the most. Apply some glue on the reverse side of the cabochon and glue a piece of the metal leaf. Close all large holes and cracks. Waiting for the glue to dry completely. Make a skinner blend of yellow and pink clay. Divide it for two parts and roll one of it to a thickness of about 0.5 mm. Put it on the cabochon and cut out an oval slightly larger than the cabochon. Wrap the cabochon. Make sure there are no air bubbles. Pull clay at edges to avoid creases. Bend clay evenly on the reverse side. Carefully cut tops of folds, but not all of clay layer. Put the cabochon on a smooth surface, which we will bake then. Press it a little to fix it on place. This way it will be fixed and work will be much easier. Now take small cutters. I use lugs for wires that are sold in a shop of electronic components. Make holes starting with a large cutter. Remove clay immediately in each hole, otherwise it can be trampled on, and clean it will be much harder. When the location of holes will satisfy you, take a small dot and put texture across the surface. You can skip this step and leave the surface smooth, or apply texture to any other method, which you like. Optionally, you can tint the cabochon. You can use dry pastel, powder or low-temperature enamel, like me. Choose a suitable color and carefully apply enamel with brush around the edges of the cabochon. Make layers very thin, achieve desired shade gradually. If you apply too much powder or enamel, it will leave an ugly stain, and enamel will be glossy in this place. We don’t need it in this case. Clean all holes from enamel with clean brush. Bake it for 15 minutes. After cooling put a little gel in the center of the back side and fill the hole with clay. Cut away the excess. Fold the end of a pin for an arbitrary loop, so that the pin will be fixed good subsequently. Glue it on the reverse side. Grease the back surface all over with the gel. Put the cabochon on the skinner blend layer so that colors of the cabochon and colors of the layer match. Press the cabochon into clay slightly and cut along the contour. Cut off edges at an angle and smooth the joint gently. Apply same the texture as at the front side. Tint the back side by enamel. Bake it again for 30 minutes. Tinting made of powders or pastels needs to be protected with varnish, but enamel tinting does not require any protection. So just hang a bale to the cabochon and hang it on a base for a necklace or chain. The pendant is ready! Metal leaf shines through the colored cabochon beautifully. I want to peek there into this small world! It glows under the rays of the sun brightly. Play with clay a cabochon and a metal leaf colors. You can get many beautiful and unusual color combinations. And of course, you can do not only pendants this way. If you make a suitable mount, you can assemble a bracelet, a necklace, earrings or even make buttons. I share my personal experience and achievements with you, and I hope that you will respect this. Of course, you can use my tutorials to create your own jewelry. You can also create your own tutorials. And I will be very grateful if you mention me as the mastermind and author of this technique. I hope you like this video.
